The Wychwood Game Design Process

“Our philosophy at Wychwood is to create innovative products that offer the best specification available for the price.

All of our products are designed in Redditch, England by British designers to meet the demands of the British game angler. We use inspiration from outside the tackle industry when creating any product, allowing us to create special and different products, standing out from the competition. Our products are individually tested by experts in the field, then refined until the design and specification have achieved exactly what we set out to do.

The following is here to give you an insight into the process behind creating a market leading product, from the initial idea right through to the finished product. We are proud of our products, we want you to be proud of your tackle”

The Brief

The Truefly brief was a simple one; create the best rod for the Stillwater angler that targets the mass. The design team then researched on going trends in the angling market and other industries to define the new action and aesthetics. Illustrated here is one of the many initial sketches that were created to define the new cosmetics.

Concept Development

Our design team has an unparalleled desire for quality and will not rest until the finished product is exactly what they set out to achieve. Specification sheets are continually issued alongside design prototyping and are a continual part of the refining process.

Alongside the design of the aesthetics we defined the new actions of the Truefly rod range using a unique blend of multi-modulus carbon to reveal a smooth mid to tip action, casting perfect, tight loops.

Design Prototyping

For every specification sheet and for each design refinement a new prototype is born, design sampling is one of the most important tools in refining a product to its fullest potential. We continually assess and reassess our decisions to make sure they are correct and when not, we learn from our mistakes.

Advertising & merchandising

Once the product design is complete, we then focus on creating advertising and merchandising that reflects the design of the product. Continually sending out the same message to the public: we create unique products that are the best specification for the price-point.

Merchandising

The final piece of the jigsaw is the in store merchandising, we want our products to sing, not become lost in the sea of other rods on the rack so we have developed a unique rod stand to display the Truefly range. Due to hit the shops in mid March head into your local retailer to try out the Truefly experience you will not be disappointed.
